1968 Avalon Travel Trailer

This is our 1968 Avalon Camper we just bought . We are cleaning it up and replacing a few bits and pieces. The interior is actually in really nice shape. The carpet does need to be replaced with vinyl though. Still looking for the right material for the curtains. The only thing is that we can't find anything on this camper on the web. Apparently it was build by the Alliance Machine Company. The badging is Avalon. If you have any information or history on this brand of Travel Trailer, let me know :)

Hello,
We have a 62 Avalon. From my research I have found some evidence that the Avalon brand was bought out by Coleman in the 70's and not many were made. Our camper had been tuned into a hunters shack in the 80's and was in very poor condition (water damage, roaches, rats, leaks and even a squirel)but we have it 90% remodeled. Took it down to the frame, all walls had to come out, had been painted with interior paint on the exterior and we have re-painted with original colors/designs. Thankfully the original water tank, sink, furnace, stove and table were all salvageable. We could not replace the walls with anything close to the origianl wood so they are white. Tip: The seams across the top almost always leak, you should seal those asap before a problem and the side front windows tend to leak as well. The vent on the top can be a problem because it can get bent so easily, ours is now re-enforced. Ours had a toilet in the closet, we took that out and replaced with a porta-potti because it was to much hassle at the camp site. If you find any more info I'd be glad to hear it.

I aquire a 1968 Avalon 16'. The trailer had been abondond years ago. In a private RV park. There was a fire in the RV park owners home. The fire trucks couldn't get to the house as it was behind 2 dozen campers. Any way the county made them get rid of all the campers. This one was never claimed. They gave it to me. I HAVE NEVER EVEN BEEN IN A CAMPER BEFORE! In cleaning it out I found:a NYC newspaper 1988 and a Detroit Newspaper 1989, dishes in the sink, rotten food in the fridge. A LOT of merchandise with the tags still on, personal items and under the fridge, a stack of $50's that had been chewed up by mice! My hypothesis: They were arrested for shop lifting and expedited out of state or to Canada. They never returned. Anyway, We emptied the trailer. We threw away the rodent destroyed cushions and cleaned what was salvageable (dishes, silverware, pots and pans...)
Also there was bird/mouse nesting material packed around the fridge and in the seat storage. There was a roof leak. My friend fixed the roof, I pulled down that part of the ceiling, replaced the beam and am in the processes of replacing the ceiling. I'm afraid to "plug"it in as I don't know what damage the mice may have done to the wiring. The toilet had been replaced w a Porta potty. The fridge, heater, stove, sunk, hood fan are all still there. I don't know how or if any of it works. I can't imagine that the copper propane lines are damaged but with out knowing how the fridge, heater, stove or lanterns work, I'm afraid to open the gas valves.
I painted the roof w tar then white roof coating. I had to buy a new roof vent cover. I painted the exterior walls with rustoleum in white and aqua marine, what I believe are the origional colors. Im also working on replacing the cushions and drapes. I removed the propane tanks and wire wheeled the tongue and the bumper. I can't find a VIN # anywhere. I see dents from where a "C" clamp may have been used to obscure what may have once been the VIN# it isn't legible anymore. I weighed it to get a registration but I'll have to get a police safety inspection in order to get a title. I'll have to change the trailer wiring on my van to a round 7 prong. I'll have to show that the trailer lights work, if they work. I've never plugged them in so I don't know.
I bought a 45w solar panel kit from Harbor freight. I just need to buy a battery(ies) now. I'm hopine to take the camper on my first vacation in 30 years to FL or TX this winter.? If I get everything finished early I may do a trial run to Big Bear Dunes a few hrs away for a week end.
